आजादी का उज्ज्वल पक्ष सबके सामने है। उससे जनता को जो राहत मिली है, उस पर हर किसी को संतोष और गर्व हो सकता है। स्वतन्त्रता आंदोलन ने एकाधिकारवाद को चुनौती दी और शासन-व्यवस्था, सामाजिक उत्पीड़न तथा अर्थपाश से जिस हद तक जनसाधारण को त्राण दिलाया, उतने अंशों में उसे सराहा ही जाएगा। परन्तु अचानक वे कौन-से कारण आ खड़े हुए कि भारत में आजादी की आधी शताब्दी पूरी होने के साथ-साथ समूची राष्ट्रीय राजनीति भ्रष्टाचारी ताकतों की गुलाम हो गयी। इसी के समानान्तर राष्ट्रीय मध्यम वर्ग भोगवाद की माँग से मदमस्त होता जा रहा है।
